About Pregnancy

Many couples presume that they will get pregnant during the first month of sexual intercourse, and they become concerned and start wondering about their fertility. when a pregnancy does not occur. This is only natural and before worrying unnecessarily remember that in a single menstrual cycle, the chance of a perfectly normal couple conceiving successfully is only about 25%, even if they have sex every single day. It is evident that Human Beings are not very efficient at producing babies!

There are many reasons for this, including the fact that some eggs don't fertilize and that some of the fertilized eggs (embryos) don't grow well in the early developmental stage because of a random genetic error.

The chances of pregnancy for a couple in a given month will depend upon many things, and the most important of these are:-

The age of the woman - As the biological clock ticks on, the number of eggs and their quality begins to decrease.

Frequency of intercourse - While there is no "normal" frequency for sex, the "optimal" frequency of intercourse if you are trying to get pregnant is about 3 times a week during the fertile period. Therefore, the more sex a couple has the greater their chances for conception! Couples who have intercourse less frequently, have a diminished chance of conceiving and

"Trying time" - This is, how long a couple have been trying to conceive. This is an important concept. If a couple has been unsuccessful when trying to conceive over a longer period time, then their chances of becoming pregnant decrease without the assistance of medical intervention.

If infertile couples had 300 years in which to breed, most wives would get pregnant without any treatment at all! Of course, time is at a premium, so the odds need to be improved - and this is where medical treatment comes in.
